Itanagar is the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, land of the rising sun in India.

How To Reach itanagar
By Air- There are flights from Guwahati to Lilabari Airport in North Lakhimpur in Assam on alternative days of the week Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Flights between Guwahati and Tezpur have also commenced recently.
By Rail- You could take the Intercity Express from Guwahati to Naharlagun Railway station at Itanagar.
By Road- Overnight buses from Guwahati are the best. You could opt for shared Sumos or Indicas running from Guwahati and Tezpur.
Inner line permit
The state of Arunachal Pradesh is a restricted area. Hence all visitors here, require an official permission to enter called the Inner Line Permit for Indians and Protected Area Permit for foreign Nationals. The ILP is issued by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh after an easy process. You could apply for it online at their official website or buy it at the borders or at the Naharlagun Station. Prices may vary. The PAP can be obtained from the Indian Missions Abroad or the Foreigners’ Regional Registration Officers at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai, Home ministry, Govt. of India or from the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh.
There are a few touristy places in Itanagar. However, if you have time constraints and want to experience only the best, you might want to go for Trekking and Rafting.
Gompa / Monastery
This monastery is nestled on a hilltop. Located on the hills, Gompa offers a fair view of the city of Itanagar. Also called the Centre of Buddhist Studies, the architecture of this temple heavily resembles Tibetian styles. The golden stupas are gracefully carved. This structure can be identified even from a distance because of it’s yellow roof tops.
Literally translating into ‘Fort of Bricks,’ this 14th century old fort is a proof of the supremacy of ancient people in the field of architecture. Around 8 million bricks were used to construct this majestic fort. Now this place is resorted to ruins and the ruins alone are magnificent in themselves. The fort is stood on top of a hill and the panoramic view from this fort is simply stunning.
Known also as Gyakar Sinyi, this lake is surrounded by mountains and lush greenery. Around 5 km away from Itanagar, this lake offers boating. The beautiful atmosphere while strolling around leaves you spellbound. There are wooden huts where you could chill. You require an entry ticket here and boating charges apply.
Trekking in Itanagar
Itanagar has some untouched routes for trekking. Trekkers never miss an opportunity to explore new tracks. These tracks have spectacular views of the mountains, valleys and waterfalls, one of them being Dariya Pahar, near Donyi Polo School.
During a spontaneous trail around this area, following the sound of waterfall we stumbled upon a serene river pool, with the local kids living it up like there’s no tomorrow.
